PDO Thread Lift: Everything You Need to Know
Looking for smoother, tighter skin without having to undergo surgery? Then the PDO thread lift might just be right for you. Read on to learn more about what it entails and what to expect from the procedure.

The PDO thread lift is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure to lift and tighten skin. It involves placing tiny biocompatible threads underneath your skin to lift it.

At The Beverly Hills Plaza Medi Spa in Los Angeles, California, Dr. Neal Handel and his team specialize in cosmetic procedures like the PDO thread lift.

Learn more about what to expect from a PDO thread lift and if this procedure is right for you.

What is a PDO thread lift?

A polydioxanone (PDO) thread lift uses dissolvable threads made of biodegradable polyester to lift your face in a short procedure. It’s a less complicated and minimally invasive procedure when compared to a facelift.

A thread lift not only lifts and smoothes out wrinkles in your face but also lifts your neck, eyes, cheeks, and jaw if they are sagging or showing signs of aging. A thread lift is commonly used in combination with other anti-aging procedures, such as micro-needling.

Benefits of getting a PDO thread lift

The main benefit of getting a thread lift is to lift loose and sagging skin using a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure. The results of a thread lift are often natural looking and require minimal downtime. Other benefits of a thread lift as compared to other procedures to smooth your skin include:

  • A boost in collagen and elastin production
  • Minimal pain
  • Healthier and smoother skin
  • Safer than other procedures with the same aim
  • No scarring afterward
  • Lower risk of complications and side effects

What to expect from a PDO thread lift

A PDO thread lift is a moderately simple procedure. Your doctor administers a local anesthetic under your skin during the procedure. Then, a minor incision is made to allow a device called a cannula to be inserted.

The cannula helps your doctor place the thread in your face. Once the thread is in place, they cut them off.

You can expect some swelling and soreness after a thread lift, which typically resolves within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. The doctor advises you to stay away from any activities that could potentially put a strain on your face for about one to two weeks.

What kind of thread lift should I get?

There are different types of thread lifts involving various kinds of threads. Here at The Beverly Hills Plaza Medi Spa, we use Minimal Invasive Nonsurgical Thread (MINT) DPO threads.

Compared to other PDO threads, MINT has proven to be the superior material offering a strong and better lift. MINT is a heavy-gauged barbed thread that results in a snatched jawline and a lift that lasts up to 18 months.
